So have you been wondering what I've been up to? I've been busy with work (I'm a business analyst by day) and I've been busy with decorations for a fall inspired bridal shower! The second part is way more fun, so that's what we'll talk about instead of numbers and spreadsheets!
My church threw a shower for the lovely bride to be, Kortnee. I've known her fiance, Ryan since he was 5. The first day I met him he showed me the "right way" to play with Lego's and told me how he didn't really like his little sister but he knew she wasn't going to go away. Wow how time flies! And just for the record he loves his little sister now (all of them)!
Like I said, this was a church affair and we divvied up the responsibilities, which I just love as it frees us all up to just focus on our particular items. My responsibilities: hosting & decorations. Since the shower was to be given smack dab in the middle of fall, I went with my golden rule, if you don't have to, don't fight the season, go with it. To me, a good theme is flexible enough to welcome a variety of elements and yet cohesive enough to facilitate a visually pleasing environment. After consulting with the shower coordinator, I decided on a vintage fall harvest theme with an emphasis on apples. Apples are a relatively inexpensive decoration this time of year and we could go with cute little phrases like "he's the apple of her eye" and "he picked her, she picked him..." phrases. It would also allow me to use inexpensive fabrics like burlap and a red & cream checked cotton. And of course I could leverage my existing fall decor. Don't you just love "shopping" in your own, existing stuff?!
From here on out, I'll let the pics do the talking, I'll break down details of how I did certain things in future posts.
Using Photoshop, I designed the invitation using several different digital papers and elements from Katie Pertiet's Fall Orchard Kits. I created them at a 4x6 size so that we could just print them out at Costco for 13 cents each! Pardon the blurred writing...used to protect anonymity!
A little fall vignette welcomed the guests outside.
The buffet table and the "Fall in Love" bunting welcomed the guests inside. The buffet table was just waiting for all the yummy food the ladies were making!
A close up of the aged crates I created. Details will follow in a future post.
The "guest book." Messages written on cut-out leaves and clipped to branches with mini clothes pins! The bride can take these along with the pictures that were taken and scrapbook them together!
The dessert table located on my kitchen island:
We've dubbed these: "ruff puffs." I'll do a tutorial of these soon. {Update: Click HERE for the tutorial}
The various ruffle cakes. I'll break down which tips I used in a future post.
So thrilled to have been a part of this shower!!

ReplyDeleteThanks Jodi! And all the food everyone made was great, Jessica's devotional was fantastic and Sabrina & Laura did the favors (I didn't get a picture of those) but they were adorable. Such a great team effort. So sorry you missed it!!
ReplyDeleteWow Heather. Jodi's right you did outdo yourself! I love everything from the invitations, which are so pretty to all the displays of food and decorations.
